P.E. uniforms aren’t the right fit for everyone at Placer

Some female students at Placer High School have been making it clear that they dislike the physical education uniforms.  They have many reasons for disliking the uniforms, and they are demanding a change.

PlacerHigh School’s P.E. attire has not pleased the females who have to wear them. Females have found them to be uncomfortable and unflattering. The uniforms being unisex is made to fit both male and female, but its style and build shows that’s it’s made more in  favor of boys rather than girls. Certain girls feel the uniform needs to be altered to create a separate style for women.

“I think the thing with girls is, most of us have to feel good in what we’re wearing to have a good time, doing whatever,” said freshman Amy Bodick.

“Clothes that are styled to fit our shape would probably help. The shorts are the worst, because of the bagginess and the awkward extra fabric around the crotch makes it extremely uncomfortable, “said Bodick.

If the uniforms change to become more feminine, there could be the possibility that they will attract attention and develop distractions. It would all depend on how the new uniforms would be made to fit girlish figures, which could be distracting. If the outfits were still modest and, “exercise friendly”, then the attention would only be because it’s new and different. Girls aren’t asking for more flesh to be shown, just to be able to be more comfortable when being active.

“I do think that girls should get their own uniform for it doesn’t take into account because a narrower waist, wider hips, and larger chest, because it is more suited for the male physique, so it’s fine for me,” stated freshman Jacob Hubbard.

Complications that could arise from having a male and female uniform would put more work for administrations with having to be responsible for money and ordering different sets of attire instead of just the one big order of unisex for the whole body of students.  Also, selling and ordering would double, which would end up being a hassle. The whole point we have uniforms is to take fashion out of the system, teachers don’t want kids tearing them up and writing on them.

“I think it wouldn’t matter and it’s something that their changing into every day, and was all just consistent, would be fine,” said Placer Physical Education teacher, Ron Hyatt.

“The cons would be just more for the house keeping stuff, the ordering… just more complicated,” said Hyatt.

Future possibilities of any kind of change for a girl’s uniform could go either way. The whole point is to dress down, however being comfortable is also important. It all depends on how badly people want to make a change, and stand up for what they want, for girls feel it’s a necessity. It is important for females to feel comfortable and to be happy while meeting the requirements of high school, but still be able to design a more feminine friendly uniform.
