Placer’s girl’s golf team has added another great season to their unbeatable reputation.
The Placer golf team’s coach, Carol French, helped lead them to victory. The team has had 11 matches and winning every single one of them, they were undefeated during the season.
On Monday, October 22nd, the team went to the divisional tournament at Yolo Fliers Golf Course inWoodland,California. The team took first place, and will be moving on to the Masters tournament.
One of the golf team’s hardest matches was the PVL’s 18 hole tournament because most of the players aren’t used to playing for an extended length of time.
“In the PVL tournaments are hard because you play for 4 ½ hours, so we need endurance,” said senior, Hannah Gregg.
When the team goes to the divisionals tournament, the Hillgals are hoping to get first or second place. If they do, they can move on to masters.
Placer won first place in the league on Monday, October 15, 2012. In 2010, Placer won their section, withWhitneyHigh Schooltook second place. In 2011, Whitney came back and beat placer. But in league, Placer won in 2011 and 2012.
“I’m really excited about winning league, because my freshman team we weren’t that good, but we have won sectionals the last three years,” said Gregg.
Placer has had golf matches against Bear River,Lincoln, Center,NevadaUnion, Del Oro, Whitney, and St. Francis.
Gregg is a four-year golfer here at Placer, and was claimed most valued player of the league in 2011. She is hoping to make it to state this year, since she hasn’t gone to state before. She is also being considered for a scholarship to play golf in college.
“The team’s best accomplishment so far this season would probably be winning our section, or being undefeated all season,” stated Gregg.
While golf doesn’t usually get as much media attention as other sports, like football, basketball, the Placer girl’s golf team is doing just as well.
Make sure to wish the Girl’s Golf team luck at the Masters tournament!
