Peer Respect

Many things have changed from time to time, generation to generation. Especially the way upperclassmen treat the freshman in high school. Teachers and parents might tell stories about how terrifying it was to be a freshman; however, it appears as though times have changed.

“You figure out how to survive or they’ll eat you up.” Hilton said describing his cases.

Hilton found himself in typical movie situations a couples times, but now it feels like none of those things happen to the Placer students.

In recent years the grade levels, “get along better and are pretty equal.” explains Jasmine French, a senior at Placer High School. French has said that she was always friends with the lowerclassmen. When she was a freshman, she only had older grade levels as her friends. Before high school, many people were nervous and a little afraid of becoming a ninth grade student because, other than the stories teachers and parents tell them, the high school movies showed a lot of teasing and bullying performed on the underclassmen.

Many high school students were not worried about it. “It didn’t phase me” stated Alyssa Escalante. The generations nowadays prove to have a better relationship with underclassmen to a certain extent. Better respect, more open minds, and higher maturity levels are starting to form.

Hopefully the generations to come can continue to have personal growth. Establishing relationships within all grade levels and reaching beyond the barriers placed by prior generations.
