Should books be banned from the library

Students at this school are actually very fortunate to have a library as big as the one at Placer.  Most schools have the government buying books for their libraries; where Placer gives students the freedom to choose what you want to read without any real restrictions.

“I think we should be able to read whatever we want and not have any restrictions on them” Told freshman Cali Hicks.

“We don’t ban books here, but there are places all over the country that ban books because they are worried about language or violence or things that people don’t like because of religion beliefs.” Says the Placer librarian, Shirley Hall.

“Having the banned books at Placer shows that the staff trusts the students more than other schools” Says Hicks.

Students know what they like to read its not like you have to read something that you absolutely hate on your own time.

“You’re high school students and you know if their is something you don’t want to read, then you don’t have to worry about it, but if your friend wants to read it then its their business,” stated Hall.

I personally love to read, opening a new book to a new reality you can escape to for a little while is absolutely amazing.  I believe that kids and teens these days are so distracted by technology that they aren’t reading as much for fun and on their own time anymore.  Instead of sitting in front of television for a couple hours, try picking up a book and read for a while.

“There are a lot of readers at Placer, some read on their phones, but I still check out a lot of books everyday and there is a lot of students who just can’t wait to get the next book,” told Hall.

“Teens these days are definitely out of reading because we have all thing new technology that distracts us, so we just don’t read” Said Hicks

Students should be able to control what they want to read and sometimes schools don’t allow that kind of books at school because of the content.

“Its okay for a parent to decide that they don’t want their child to read a certain book, but it doesn’t mean we have to ban them from every body” Said Hall.

“I think that whether or not we should ban a book depends on the rating of the book or how bad it is, there should be a small restriction on what comes in and out of the library.” told Freshman Haley Mckee.

We might need a little restriction on the books because having really inappropriate books in our school library might give our school a bad name.  Although we do have a lot of freedom here at Placer and I believe we need to be more appreciate of the library and go check out a book once in a while, you never know what you might find.
