Not everyone eats meat at Placer

“A life without meat is a life not worth living,” freshman Lily Worthington implies.

Many people believe that being vegetarian is a waste of time and not healthy. The argument between people who eat meat to the ones who don’t is strong and everlasting.

Vegans, vegetarians, and pescetarians are only a few of the different types of people who choose to live without meat. Each one is different but all are around the same concept of not eating meat.

Vegans do not eat anything that is animal or produced by an animal. This includes milk, cheeses, butter, and anything of the sort.

Vegetarians eat anything like vegetables, fruit, beans, etc. they do not eat anything that is of animal flesh, including fish.

Pescetarians are almost the same as vegetarians but they can choose to eat fish. Although fish is considered meat pescetarians choose not to actually eat the flesh of animals. Even though pescetarians have the choice of eating fish it is less likely that they eat a lot of it.

Many people argue as to why people should or shouldn’t become vegetarians. They also argue as to why and how they felt after making this big decision.

“I couldn’t get over the fact that we selected a few animals as pets and the rest were labeled as food,” junior Sophia Juarez argues.

One of the biggest reasons why people become vegetarians is because they feel that eating animals is unfair.

“Vegetables! Tofu is pretty flavorless so veggies are my number one choice,” junior Sophia Juarez replies when asked what to replace meat with.

Aside from being unfair studies show that people felt healthier and more confident when they made the switch to not eat meat. They also show that being vegetarian introduces people to a wider variety of new food.

“I ate things I didn’t even think about eating before I turned vegetarian!” former vegetarian Sophia Juarez says.

Another problem people see to being a vegetarian is what to replace meat with. Although vegetables are acceptable they do not contain the necessary nutrients required for daily health.  One of the best things to eat were said to be anything whole grain, tofu, eggs, anything dairy, etc.

Although most people feel better after becoming vegetarian, it’s hard to adjust to the necessary procedures to avoid meat.

“Having to order food or cook food that does not contain meat is harder than it looks,” freshman Olivia Obray explains.

Almost every fast food place or restaurant does not have the option of appetizing meals that are necessary for vegetarians to eat. Most vegetarians do not eat out because finding meals is harder than it seems.

Cooking is as difficult as eating out too because finding different meals to make is varied and there aren’t very many options to a meal without meat.

People have different outlooks on vegetarianism and everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Although some people believe it is not a helpful or healthy diet, others believe it is worth trying.
