No Shave November
It’s that time of year, fall has officially arrived. As the weather begins to cool, people think about traditions from their childhood, and activities that they used to enjoy as children.
There are fall festivities, apple picking, hayrides, tailgating at local football games, preserving colorful leaves, and nature walks! Whatever tradition it may be, it gives one something to look forward to during the season of fall.
Also, with fall comes No-shave November. Some may participate just for fun and may have no idea about its relation to prostate cancer.
It is an annual, month long event involving the growing of moustaches during the month of November to raise awareness for prostate Cancer and other male cancer initiatives. Many women choose to do it as well and want to get involved to help support the cause by not shaving their legs and armpits.
No-Shave November’s expectations are simple, yet firm. On October 31st, male participants are to shave off all facial hair or any other hair they wish to remove and women are to shave off all leg and armpit hair. Participants are encouraged to take a photo at this point to prove their hairlessness and to compare before/after photos at the end of the month.
During the whole month of November shaving, trimming, or waxing is not allowed.
“Don’t do it! It’s gross,” stated junior Emily Kendall. Some think it is a cleanliness issue and that it is very unpleasant. “It’s just un-hygienic, uncomfortable, and looks bad especially for sports players. It also feels gross if you brush your legs with girls who haven’t shaven. For guys its fine but for girls no”, addedKendall.
No-Shave November happens to fall into a good month because of the cool weather and feeling the need to wear any clothing that’s revealing and show females hairy legs or armpits.
Besides, constant shaving scrapes off the surface of the epidermis which can encourage irritation, infection, and acne. Giving your skin a month or even just a
week to regroup can have a number of benefits.
“I think it’s shave-tastic!” Junior Maya Thomas responded.
Having such benefits and supporting such a positive cause can help to get more people get involved.
Moreover, this is a month to show ones awareness and support for Prostate Cancer.
