If you over indulge during the holidays, fear not, because it’s worth
it. Student surveys suggest that some are content in their holiday weight, while others feel ashamed after consuming seconds and third servings of honey glazed ham and pumpkin pie.
When Junior Jocelyn Frye was asked how she would shed the holiday
pounds she stated, “Nothing, I like the plumpness. It keeps me warm.”
Others are used more cautious about when heading to the dinner table
to eat. Junior Alyssa Harber said, “I try to watch what I eat so I
do not consume 9000 calories. It’s pretty easy to do because my family
serves a lot of meat and I am a vegetarian.”
Studies have shown that while people believe they have gained between 5 and 10 pounds over the holidays, one pound is typically all that’s gained. While this may not seem like a big deal, that one pound that is gained is not lost during the rest of the year. While the holidays bring cheer and merriment they also bring extra pounds. But not to worry, there are many things one can do to shave off the lbs.
Drink water when you have a craving. It is scientifically proven that people’s cravings only last about ten minutes. Quenching ones hunger with water is a fool proof way to rid oneself of an appetite.
Portions are extremely important. Avoid seconds and thirds at all costs and be sure to watch serving sizes. Instead of the double-double at in n out, order only one patty. Spike food with salsa for extra zest that fills the stomach.
Sodas are a major source of calories and fat intake. It is best to stay away from these beverages. Maybe spring for iced tea or juice instead. Add more fruits and vegetables into the diet. They provide the body with much needed vitamins and anti-oxidants.
Mindless munching can add up. Watch out for snacking.
Lastly, it is smart to organize a work out regimen to tone buns and thighs. Twenty minutes of cardio, ten minutes of abdominals, and then squats and stretching to boot is more than enough to get one started. This twenty to thirty minutes of working out three to four times a week can be enough to permanently rid oneself of the extra weight.
