Music. Whether you admit it or not, it is all around, impacting society’s emotions, thoughts, and activities. Music creates an atmosphere in everyday life, which is the very reason why concerts are becoming an increasingly popular activity in the lives of many high school students.
“I went to jingle ball in sixth grade. But more recently I went to Carrie Underwood and Keith Urban, Lady Antebellum with Tim McGraw, and Toby Keith with Trace Adkins,” stated Placer junior Jessica Fisk.
Placer Junior Gabby Orteza has been to a number of concerts, some of which include Justin Timberlake, Prince, No Doubt, Paramore 3OH!3, and Say Anything.
“Just the thought of being in the same venue as these bands is something that entices me.”
People go to concerts with the expectation to see a live band and have a good time. But what makes the experience truly great is when one gets to walk away from a concert with more than the memory. Orteza said that while at an All Time Low concert, “the lead singer threw out his guitar pick and I got it.”
Sophomore Lauren Collins is an avid Billy Joel fan and has been to three of his concerts, two of which Elton John was also performing.
“My most memorable experience was probably getting really close and getting pictures with Billy Joel. Nicole [Parrish] even got to touch his knee,” Collins stated.
While the music is what draws in the viewer, the atmosphere of a concert is what keeps people coming.
“The atmosphere at concerts is careless; everyone’s having a good time,” says Orteza.
Going to a concert is great, but there are certain aspects of the experience that can keep people from having a good time. Concerts are typically crowded places and sometimes the noise combined with the huge number of people can be too much for people to handle.
Orteza explained that “sweaty shirtless fat middle aged men everywhere” can be a bit much.
Soon to come to the Sacramento area are well known artists Nickelback, Shakira, and pop sensation Justin Bieber. Performing a bit further away in Los Angeles is rapper Drake and alternative singer Michael Buble. Grab a friend or a family and go grab some tickets at www.tickco.com .
“I think concerts are more than just about seeing a band. The essence you get just by being there in person is in and of itself great,” said Fisk.
