The dance team performed at rallies and football games throughout the season. Last year was the last year that the dance team was active. For those who don’t know what dance team is, it could be described by some as similar to cheerleading.

”I feel in some ways dance is similar to cheer but in most ways it’s different. Cheer has always been viewed as a high school activity, while dance team is a new and upcoming activity that is not viewed with the same idea in mind.” Is Sophomore Summer Gartrell’s view on the matter.

As the dance team is no longer active there was a spot in the halftime show that was filled by drumline, and although there have been a few home games some people did not notice the substitution.

“I didn’t really pay much attention to the dance team” states Mark VanZandt who is a senior this year and has seen all of the home games as well as the dance teams performances.

“Not enough funding” is what freshmen Vivian Bertrand  though when explained to that the dance team wasn’t active anymore. Others thought the same thing. In actuality the dance team did not have a coach or enough people interested in it.

“There’s the possibility that it could but she doesn’t see a coach that would be willing to head up the team so i don’t think there will.” was Summer’s response when asked about the possibility of the dance team returning next year. Most people don’t really care about the dance team coming back or not because it wasn’t a major part of school. Although people noticed that the dance team did not come back, none particularly cared.

There have been negative comments from members of the dance team as well as people who have been to the games and rallies many times and witnessed the dances.

”For the first part of the year, yes because it made me feel like it gave me a spot in the high school food chain and people knew my name, however during the last part of the year dance team became an obligation rather than something I looked forward to.” stated a dance team member who did not enjoy it as much as you would expect.

There are reasons behind the dance team not coming back that mostly revolve around overall disinterest, not only from the students but there’s no one really interested in coaching the group as well.
