Update on Sports

Story by Natasha McGown

Placer Winter Sports of 2013 was a successful season for all the sports. Boys Varsity Basketball is still going on and is 13 to 11. “It was a lot of fun” said sophomore Giovanni Roberts.  Girls Varsity basketball team did well, however, two of their star players were injured.  The Girls varsity basketball team is 51-20.

The snowboarding team was ranked first in The Placer Valley League (PVL) and had two races on February 14, 2014.

The wrestling team went undefeated and moved through sections and then went to masters on the weekend of March first.

Spring Sports are just getting started and the boys’ basketball JV and varsity team are just practicing and getting ready to dominate the Spring season.

Tennis is conditioning and just went through hell week.  Junior at Placer High School, Jenna Graden comments in it, “Hell week is basically where we do intense workouts for example wall sits when people are standing on your legs.  We also do line runs which are the worst things ever.  It’s basically like a lot of sprints.”  However, hell week is beneficiary to the team as a whole. “I think it’s good for the team,” continues Graden, “but I think that they could make it a little bit easier because it’s really hard.”

Track and field had their first meet at the end of the month but unfortunately, it was accompanied by heavy rain.

Boys Golf is going out to the golf course and practicing hard and playing scramble which is a fun golf game that they use to practice.

Boys Volleyball is practicing after school and getting ready for their upcoming games. Girls’ soccer has been conditioning since the beginning of school and they are also starting to hold tryouts for two weeks. Sophomores have an equal chance to either make it on either of the JV soccer team or Varsity soccer team because there needs to be an equal amount of people on each team. The swimming team has been swimming and getting ready for the match in March. Last but not least, the girls’ softball team are conditioning and trying out. This year’s Spring Sports are going to be great!
