Placer prepares for the arrival of WASC

The Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) is coming back toPlacerHigh Schoolto review if our school is staying up to date and following the correct curriculum.

WASC is one of six regional accrediting associations in theUnited States. The Commission also provides assistance to schools located in the western hemisphere.

Think of WASC as a progress report for the whole school. It puts a lot of pressure on the office staff and teachers on campus to make sure that they are representing our school and during everything that WASC requires. It is also partly the students’ responsibility as well to represent our school and to be friendly and respectful to the officials of WASC when they are on campus.

What WASC officials will be doing are sitting in on all classes to validate teachers, interviewing students and grading the school has a whole. WASC officials will be grading our school mainly by how the school is run as a whole, how the office staff manages the school and how the teachers teach their course.

“Teachers are putting together evidence folders of students work”, journalism advisor, Dan Wilson when asked about what teachers are doing to prepare for the arrival of WASC.

The reason why we as students should be aware is that they will be asking students about our school and if we feel it helps us and if it is up to date on the curriculum.

“It’s to see what we have done well on and what we can improve on” said Placer Dean, Steve Caminiti.

If our school gets a good report from WASC officials they will givePlacerHigh Schoola six – year accreditation. This would mean that our school would have a good review, reputation and they won’t have to come back for another six years.

Also if Placer does not pass the WASC report then they will have to watch over and come to our school more often. A six – year accreditation means that our schools passed and say if Placer didn’t pass or if we don’t do very well they may come back next year or up to five years.

Let’s prove to WASC that Placer is one of the best schools in the area when they come to our school on April 7th through the 10th.
