Construction affects students

Construction+affects+students
Many students here at Placer High school have become annoyed with the ongoing construction taking place in front of the cafeteria.
“Yeah, it annoys me,” Freshman Maddy Rose stated. “It blocks my access to classes and bathrooms and if it weren’t there, I probably could get to them much faster.”
The construction is necessary to allow the creation of a handicap parking space and although many would agree with Rose’s statement, there are also some who really don’t mind the construction, like Sophomore Hannaha Brown who said, “It doesn’t really affect my routine, I just walk around it. It’s pretty easy.”
The main problems most students appear to have with the construction is how much it is in their way, the noise it creates, and the unsightliness of it. Located right in the front of the cafeteria and directly next to the arch, everyone who drives or walks by can see and hear it immediately.
“It is very ugly and it obstructs the view of the cafeteria,” Freshman Tani Thomson stated, “I also hear the noise sometimes, and it is pretty annoying for me.”
Construction also appears to affect where people meet. “My sister and I were planning on meeting there sometimes for lunch, but not anymore.” Hayden Page, a freshman, said. “I think it is more crowded now because of the construction.”
Along with those, there are other problems that students seem to have. Like if the money spent working on the parking lot should be used elsewhere. Junior Dominic Granieer said, “They should be working on the football field, not the parking lot.”
Zoë Johnson added her opinion that, “It [the money] should be used on more field trips.”
When the construction is finished, there should be one new handicap parking space, a small amount of cement to help prevent flooding of the area, and one less tree. When asked if the construction was worth the money and the wait, freshman Nicolas Pezzola replied, “I think it’s worth it, but it should have been finished over the summer.”
Kiri Rao, a freshman, disagrees and states, “It’s not really worth it. It blocks everything, it is hideous, and it’s probably going to keep going for much longer than needed.”
The construction started over the summer, and is estimated to be completed sometime in October. This is leaving many students annoyed, but some still find relief.
“It seems like it’s not that big of a project,” senior Emily Browning said, “And they should have planned it better around school starting.”
But freshman Kiera Jordan has something just a little more positive to say about the construction. “That’s good,” she stated. “I was hoping it would end within the next few months. It is great that there will be a new handicap parking spot, but I was thinking it would go on forever, all for just one of them!”
It seems that many students agree that one handicap space and some cement isn’t really worth the wait.
