Placer High School has decent food that most kids think of as gross school food, when really it’s just made with nutrition and healthy food that’s good and good for you.

Placer produces about 280 meals every day for the students. Only about 240-260 students by lunch everyday and the cooks are hoping for that number to go up. When making the food, the cooks prepare each meal with fresh and healthy ingredients that’s nutritious and very good to the taste.

Since their is still about 20-30 meals leftover, the cooks give the extra food to the football players for snacks after practice. Placers head cook says “If it doesn’t go, toss it out”. Meaning that they don’t reuse hot meals and serve them again the next day.

“We use whole grain and wheat bread”. The Placer cooks are sure to serve you good healthy food for only $2.75. This comes your choice of an entree and a fruit or vegetable.

Placer freshman Aspen Edwards says that “I get school food about 3 times a week, and most of the time I think its pretty good”.

Edwards believes that when she buys food it usually pretty good and not overpriced at all.

Part of the reason some kids don’t buy school food is because Placer isn’t allowed to sell junk food for legal reasons. Some kids have said that they would eat at the cafeteria if they sold junk food for cheaper than the gas station or just served food that you can buy elsewhere.

A possibility that could bring in more kids to eat at the cafeteria is maybe have a vote in the morning for one of the meals kids would want to eat. Serving food from tamales to junk food may also bring in more kids.

Most of the kids that buy lunch get free or reduced lunch which is part of the reason kids don’t come. Kids can go to the gas station and get an Arizona for $1 rather than spending $2.75 for a full meal.

Placer also has a snack bar at lunch where they sell frozen yogurt, chips, and things like fruit roll ups. Buying some of these things can cost about the same amount as buying lunch but instead you’re buying snacks and not real food.

Most kids think that Placers food is just heated up in the morning or defrosted when really the cooks spend all day until lunch time making and preparing good healthy food.

Placer school lunch is better than some kids think, and they should just try it out for once and have their opinion on what they think the food tastes like. It may be better than what you expected.
