School Rallies aren’t for Everyone

Rallies have been a part of Placer’s school tradition for a very long time, creating a way to show your Placer spirit. But for a while, people have been given the option to not arrive at the rallies, and rather stay behind the cafeteria. Some people say that they lack spirit, but others say that they must have their reasons.

The rallies at placer usually feature themes and events, used as reason to get our school hyped for what’s coming up in our school calendar. They range from performances to people simply talking.

The gatherings are widely celebrated, especially during homecoming week, but a few people seem to not enjoy these rallies, usually for a specific reason.

“I don’t go because I get migraines easily.” said Leonel Roca.

The rallies typically invoke a lot of noise, and large amount of bass. I personally do not go for this reason, as the sound displaces my thoughts. Some people go because of Peer Pressure.

“I don’t go to rallies because my friends don’t go, so I don’t go.” said Sydnie Cordell.

Normally, you will see large groups outside during the rallies. This is probably because of the fact that people would rather hang out with their friends, then to go celebrate the rally.

“I dont even know why we have rallys,” said Leonel.

Rallies seem to have a mixed view amongst people, the staff seems to love it, while some kids just do not like to get involved. The students typically have fun outside of rallies, just as much as you would think they would have in the rally.

Peter Efstathiu said, “I think its more fun being at the rallies with your friends, then at the cafeteria complaining.”

Rallies are a good example of school spirit, showing school themes portrayed through acts and skits, but it also seems to be something students don’t like to partake in. Some people think that without rallies, you lack in school spirit. Others say otherwise.

“I dont think its a lack of school spirit, its a lack of getting involved.” said Mr. Efstathiu.
