Social media plays a big role in most people’s everyday life. Social media has changed so much over the years.  Before Facebook, many people were more familiar with sites such a MySpace. 

Social media sites are always improving.  Social media is a simple act of connecting with friends and family all over the country and world.. Not only can you connect with your friends, but friends of your friends. Social media is so simple yet so complicated.

 Facebook is the number one social media site on the web, with over 900,000,000 monthly users. Facebook has changed and added a few things since it first came out. It added things such as the timeline, and private photo syncing. Facebook has always been ahead of every other social media site. Facebook also has photo and status sharing as well as private messaging.

Twitter is not very far behind Facebook with 290,000,000 monthly users. Twitter has a 140 character limit. Twitter has changed and improved over the years.  Twitter is centered around Micro blogging.  LinkedIn is the third most popular site. LinkedIn is where professionals can connect and people can promote themselves. LinkedIn has an estimated of 250,000,000 monthly users. Not only can people promote themselves but their businesses as well. On LinkedIn, businesses can connect and have discussions, post job ads and apply for jobs. 

Pintrest is the fourth most popular site with 150,000,000 monthly users.  Pintrest is a very unique social media site and is different from Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn in many ways. Many users on Pintrest share ideas for crafts, cooking, and interior and exterior designs. Google+ has grown a tremendous amount since the release in summer of 2011. Google+ has over 126,000,000 monthly users. Google has failed a couple times in the past trying to be like other social media sites.  Google Wave and Google Buzz were failed social media sites also created by Google.

Tumblr has over 125,000,000 monthly users. Tumblr is another micro blogging site like Twitter. But unlike Twitter, Tumblr is used for sharing pictures and gifs. On Tumblr you follow other users, like and reblog their pictures. Instagram is growing rapidly as well, with over 100,000,000 monthly users. Instagram is similar to tumblr, You share and like pictures that other users post, You can also follow others. Instagram is the most popular photo sharing social site on the web. It used to be exclusively limited to the IOS platform but has since grown to the Android and web.
